Silo is a local-first extension. All data you save is stored exclusively on your own device.
We do not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on external servers.
1. Overview
Silo ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension developed by Lichen. Its sole purpose is to
let you save and restore browser tab collections locally on your device. This privacy policy
explains what data the Extension handles, how it is stored, and what third-party services (if any)
are involved.
2. Data We Collect
We do not collect any personal data.
Specifically, Silo does not collect, transmit, log, or share:
Your name, email address, or any identifying information
Browsing history or tab URLs beyond what is needed in the moment to save a collection
Usage statistics or analytics events
Crash reports or telemetry
Any data with Lichen or any third-party analytics service
3. Data Stored Locally
All collection data (tab URLs, titles, favicons, labels, and settings) is stored exclusively in
your browser's local IndexedDB storage. This data:
Never leaves your device
Is not synced to any cloud service
Is not accessible to Lichen or any third party
Can be exported or deleted by you at any time from within the extension
4. Permissions Explained
Silo requests the following Chrome permissions. Each is used only for the stated purpose and
nothing else:
tabs — Read the URL, title, and favicon of your currently open tabs
so they can be saved to a collection. Tab data is written to local IndexedDB only.
storage — Save extension settings (e.g., theme preference, free/Pro
status) using Chrome's local storage API.
tabGroups — (Pro feature) Read and restore Chrome tab group names and
colors alongside your saved collections. Only used when you trigger a save or restore action.
downloads — Allow you to export your collections as a JSON file or
trigger an automatic local backup file download. No data is sent to any server.
alarms — (Pro feature) Schedule a periodic background task that
triggers an automatic local backup. The alarm fires locally; no network request is made.
5. Payment Processing (Pro License)
The Pro license is handled by ExtensionPay, which uses
Stripe as its payment processor. When you purchase a Pro license:
Payment information (card details, billing address) is collected and processed solely by
ExtensionPay / Stripe, in accordance with their respective privacy policies.
Lichen does not receive, store, or have access to your payment card details.
The extension makes a license verification request to ExtensionPay's servers solely to
confirm Pro status. No tab data or collection content is included in this request.
6. No Third-Party Analytics or Tracking
Silo does not embed any analytics SDK, tracking pixel, or telemetry library. No usage events,
error logs, or behavioral data are sent anywhere.
7. Children's Privacy
Silo is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Because no personal data is collected by the extension at all, no special handling is required.
8. Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy changes in a material way, the updated version will be published at this
URL and the "Last updated" date above will be revised. Continued use of the Extension after a
policy update constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
